Longevity Risk: Rethinking Financial Planning for Longer Lives

17 September 2026

Living longer is changing the financial equation. Longer life horizons affect how individuals save, invest and plan their wealth, raising new questions for financial advisers and investment professionals about retirement income, portfolio construction and the sustainability of long-term financial plans.

On Thursday, 29 October 2026, CFA Society Italy and ADVISOR – Open Financial Communication will host “Longevity Risk – Il futuro della pianificazione: dinamiche, rischi e strategie di gestione”, an event dedicated to examining the practical implications of longevity for financial planning and wealth management.

Starting at 6:30 pm at Palazzo Giureconsulti in Milan, the event will bring together representatives from the financial industry, professionals and academia to consider how increasing longevity is changing the assumptions on which traditional approaches to saving and investing have been built.

The discussion will begin with a closer look at longevity trends in Italy, providing the context for a broader debate on their implications for savings, welfare and investment. A roundtable will then explore how financial planning needs to evolve when individuals must prepare for longer time horizons and potentially longer retirement periods.

Particular attention will be devoted to portfolio construction and wealth planning. Longer horizons can change the way investors think about asset allocation, income requirements and the management of financial resources over time, making longevity an increasingly relevant variable in the relationship between clients and financial professionals.

The event will therefore approach longevity not simply as a demographic trend, but as a financial planning challenge requiring advisers, private bankers and wealth managers to reconsider how portfolios and long-term plans are designed.

The initiative is organised by ADVISOR and CFA Society Italy, with the contribution of Arca Fondi SGR, BlackRock, Credemvita, Mediobanca SGR and Swisscanto Asset Management Italia. It is a limited-capacity event reserved for financial advisers, private bankers, wealth managers and other financial professionals. A networking dinner will follow the discussion.

By bringing together different perspectives from across the industry and academia, the event aims to move the longevity debate from demographic projections to practical financial decisions: how to save, how to invest and how to build financial plans capable of supporting increasingly long lives.
