The CFA Research Challenge is back with momentum! This competition, organized by the CFA Institute, attracts international academic excellence each year. The local coordination is led by CFA Society Italy in collaboration with FactSet.
In the 2025 edition, ten teams from as many Italian universities are participating. Each team, guided by a professional CFA mentor and supported by FactSet's analytical and financial systems, is tasked with analyzing a company listed on the Italian Stock Exchange.
This year's case study is De Nora, prestigious company founded in 1923, a pioneer in research and development of electrochemical solutions, committed to creating a more sustainable future through the development of technologies that contribute to a more efficient and environmentally friendly energy transition.
In accordance with the standards set by the CFA Institute, the competition unfolds in three stages: the national phase, culminating in the announcement of the best Italian team, followed by the regional and global phases. This year's semifinals and final will be held in the beautiful setting of PwC Italy headquarters in Milan.
The winning team from the Italian final will have the opportunity to participate in the EMEA regional competition. The ultimate global event will take place on 5 May 2025, when the six finalist teams from Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Americas will compete.
In past editions, thanks to the solid preparation of Italian students, the 'Made in Italy' shone through the team from Politecnico di Milano, winning the EMEA regional final five times in 2023, 2022, 2016, 2014, and 2011 and securing the global final in 2011.
The eleven Italian universities participating in the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2025 are: Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, Politecnico di Milano, Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, Università degli Studi di Firenze, Università di Roma Tor Vergata, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Sapienza Università di Roma, Università degli Studi di Udine.
